Emergency Action Plan
Cutcombe School Pool – Emergency Action Plan
1. Purpose
To ensure the safety of all pool users by providing clear procedures for responding to emergencies, including evacuation, minor incidents, and life-threatening situations.
2. Immediate Pool Evacuation Triggers
The pool must be cleared immediately in the following situations:
· Lack of water clarity (e.g., drain cover appears blurred).
· Serious injury to a bather.
· Discovery of a casualty in the water.
· Onset of darkness (e.g., lighting up time or just before sunset).
· Thunder or lightning storm
Evacuation may also be necessary in the following cases:
· Disorderly or dangerous behaviour.
· Structural failure or damage.
· Emission or suspected emission of toxic gases.
3. Minor Emergencies (Non-Life-Threatening)
Examples: Minor cuts, slips, or non-critical medical issues.
Actions:
· Remove the casualty using a reaching pole or by entering the water if safe.
· Administer First Aid.
· If needed, call an ambulance or transport the casualty to hospital.
· Ensure the pool is not left unsupervised. Clear the pool if necessary. · Report the incident to: focs2021@outlook.com
· Complete the Accident Report Form.
· Replenish the First Aid Box.
4. Major Emergencies (Serious Injury or Life-Threatening)
1. A. Serious Injury
· Clear the pool of all bathers.
· Remove the casualty without worsening the injury. If not possible, support them at the poolside.
· Reassure the casualty and await emergency services.
· Instruct all bathers to dry off and get dressed. · Report to: focs2021@outlook.com
· Complete the Accident Report Form.
· Replenish the First Aid Kit.
2. B. Life-Threatening Situation
· Immediately clear the pool.
· Call 999 and provide the location using WHAT3WORDS: bead.doctor.blinks.
· Begin EAR/ECC (Emergency Artificial Respiration / External Cardiac Compression).
· Assign one adult to wait at the staff car park to direct emergency services.
· Instruct all bathers to dry off and get dressed. · Report to: focs2021@outlook.com
· Complete the Accident Report Form.
5. Communication Protocol
· Use clear, calm instructions to direct bathers.
· Ensure mobile phone is accessible for emergency calls.
· Notify emergency contacts and school leadership as appropriate.
6. Post-Incident Review
· Conduct a debrief with involved staff.
· Review and update the EAP if necessary.
· Log the incident and any follow-up actions taken.
